ingredients
Never testing on animals. | Utilizing organic ingredients. | Opposing the engineered food industry. | Selecting raw materials from reputable vendors.
These are all Artisan Bath & Body's fundamentals. We do not use parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, petroleum byproducts, or any other similar filler. We will never consider using cheap ingredients for our products. High-quality elements mean a lot to us, especially those certified organic. Most of our products are vegan, except those that contain goat milk, beeswax, lanolin, honey, yogurt, silk or buttermilk.
HANDMADE SOAP
All of our handmade soaps are made from scratch, without using detergents, soap bases, or environmentally toxic chemicals. Our soaps are made with the utmost care and diligence. They also contain the natural glycerin formed in the soap-making process. We use natural ingredients in our soaps, such as GMO-free vegetable oils and butter, RSPO certified sustainable Palm Oil, iron oxides, phthalate-free fragrances, organic essential oils, herbs, clays, and minerals.
Our cold process soaps are made using oils with an alkaline solution (lye) which brings a chemical reaction known as saponification. During this reaction, the oils combine with the alkali to form crude soap which is a mixture of various soap salts, excess oil, water, and liberated glycerin. The glycerin is a useful byproduct, which is left in our soaps as a softening agent.
If there is no lye in the making process, there is no soap! All real bars of soap are made with sodium hydroxide, better known as lye. Any skin-washing product or shampoo made without sodium hydroxide is a detergent, not soap; lye is needed for saponification. Even though lye was added in the making process, there is no lye left in the finished product.
What is the cold process method? The cold process method is a way to make soap bars without the use of additional heat to hurry the chemical reaction along; instead, it is done with its own natural process to take its course. Natural cold process soap needs to slowly "cure" over time. We allow our soaps to naturally air cure for their needed amount of time. During the first two weeks of curing, the saponification process is completed. As the soap continues to cure, most of the water used in the recipe evaporates. The curing process ensures a harder, longer-lasting bar of soap.
Technically and naturally, soap cannot be moisturizing. Soap is intended to clean as it is a wash-off product. A well balanced handmade soap can be less stripping to the skin’s natural oils. Some additives in our bars of soap have exfoliation properties that may make your skin feel softer.
All of our soaps lather easily. We suggest keeping your handmade soap out of constant running water.
The ingredients list of each of our soaps is properly listed using the corresponding Saponified INCI term for each ingredient.

NATURAL SKIN CARE
We carefully formulate each skin care product with quality ingredients such as vegetable oils and butter, herbal extracts, essential oils, and minerals. We select our ingredients taking into consideration sustainable harvesting and fair trade practices.
To avoid contamination from going into the container, we suggest washing hands before each use. Do not leave the container open. It is also important to not let water get in the container.

AROMA
Cosmetic skin-safe certified organic essential oils and phthalate-free fragrance oils are used as aromas for our products, each with its appropriate suggested ratios.
An essential oil is a natural oil typically obtained by distillation and having the characteristic aroma of the plant from which it is extracted. Each essential oil is properly listed on each ingredients list. Fragrance oils, also known as aroma oils, are blended synthetic aroma compounds or natural essential oils that are diluted with a carrier like propylene glycol.
We understand the importance of fragrance-sensitive skin and we take it very seriously. Unscented products are separated from scented products at all times. We make them separately using tools that are only used for unscented products.

PACKAGING
We love using recycled craft paper and protective foam to pack our products. Glass containers will be packed in bubble wrap for a safe trip. We try our best to reduce waste and plastic in our packaging. For that matter, it is up to the customer if whether they would like their soaps to be wrapped in glassine paper or plastic shrink wraps.
